I can’t believe it has taken me this long to write a short Christmas story. I already have two Christmas-themed novels available, but they are not exactly short. Sorceress Kringle, my gender-swapped Santa fantasy, and its prequel, The Icemaster of New-York, clock in at 600-plus pages. Whereas Christmas time is the perfect time to indulge in something short. I wrote Preston the Provider last summer, but it has taken me this long to design the cover and interior, and have the book copy-edited. It is finally out in the world as of today. What’s the story about? Preston is a geeky teen growing up in modern-day New York City. He stumbles upon a wondrous artifact that gives him a great gift at the right season of the year when he needs it most. It’s a novella, but believe me, it’s a quick read.

I’m kind of proud of the interior design of the paperback. Most of the story takes place in the tunnels and trains of the New York City subway system, a habitat I know well from my days getting around the big town. To make the paperback sing, I licensed some stock images of subways and popped them here and there in the text, along with one wacko vintage-seeming image that I think you will enjoy.

The paperback is about 130 pages, but it comes with some excerpts of some of my other books, just to give new readers a taste.

That brings the number of holiday offerings to a whopping three, if anyone’s counting.

The first two are Books 1 and 2 in the ongoing Kris Kringle series: the main title, Sorceress Kringle, about the time in the 1600s when Santa Claus saved a young New York City, and the prequel, The Icemaster of New-York, that tells Kris’s backstory of how she was rescued as an orphaned infant and adopted by the nefarious father of winter, Jack Frost.

I’m the sort of guy who can read Christmas stories all year round, so it’s a little surprising that it took me this long to write a short Christmas stories into my work. But I’m glad I did. Holiday stories are fun to do and they make great gifts.

The Kringle and Frost books are available in ebook, paperback, and hardcover. Preston’s in ebook and paper only. Even at novella-length, it’s too short to mess with a hardcover.

I know it’s a little early to drop anything Christmas related, but I’d rather have Preston out in the world than hold him eight months. And really, since is story takes place in December 2024, he really should debut close to that timeframe. God knows he’s got enough time weirdness to deal with for such a young guy.
