My buddy Jack, who lives in Hoboken, NJ, finally got his electricity back on, and put together this report on his post-Sandy adventures.

The post is fairly long, but worth a scroll-through for the photos alone. You get a sense of what it’s like to live for a few days in an American disaster zone, with National Guard troops providing supplies and transport, Good Samaritans showing up to dole out hot, free food to strangers, and people with electricity offering extension cords so neighbors can charge their devices and send “I’m okay!” notes to family and friends.
